SANDAKAN: A teacher and four students are spending their vacation helping the local community in Sim-Sim deal with the floating garbage problem in the water village.
Usniati Mohd Umar, who teaches at Sung Siew along with students Hector Roderick, Abdul Ariq, Jason Lee and Putra Danial started the garbage trap project in May.
The garbage trap project was initiated in collaboration with the Sandakan Parliament, Future Alam Borneo (a non-governmental organisation) and the local community.
She said the idea stemmed from a collaboration with Future Alam Borneo.
