School shooter pleads guilty after killing four in Apalachee High attack

  • Colt Gray, 16, has pleaded guilty to 55 counts including murder for the 2024 shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia, which resulted in the deaths of two teachers and two students and wounded several others.
  • The plea was entered without a deal with prosecutors, and Barrow County Superior Court Judge Nicholas Primm will now determine the sentence after hearing evidence and recommendations from both sides.
  • Gray's father, Colin Gray, was previously convicted in March on charges including second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter for providing his son with the assault-style rifle used in the attack and is scheduled for sentencing next week.
  • Investigators said Colt Gray, who was 14 at the time of the shooting, meticulously planned the assault, carrying the rifle onto a school bus and leaving a notebook with detailed instructions and a diagram for the attack.
  • Evidence presented included a shrine to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooter Nikolas Cruz found in Colt Gray's bedroom, and testimony that his father was aware of his son's deteriorating mental health but failed to secure his weapons or follow through on counseling.
