Kota Kinabalu: An 11-year-old pupil sustained severe injuries after being struck by a car whilst crossing the road outside SK Darau in Manggatal on Monday morning.
City police chief ACP Shahrudin Mat Husain said police received an alert regarding the incident along Jalan Tuaran Lama at 8.03am.
Preliminary investigations showed that a Proton Waja driven by a 69-year-old man was travelling from Menggatal town towards CKS Menggatal when the vehicle collided with the schoolboy, who was believed to have run across the road from right to left.
The victim, who suffered serious head injuries, was taken to Likas Hospital and remains in the red zone of the emergency department.
Shahrudin said the car had been impounded for Puspakom inspection, with the case being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 as police review nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and record statements from relevant parties.
