Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek says schools will operate normally as PdPR is not yet approved, prioritising learning recovery over hasty policy changes

KUALA LUMPUR: Schools will continue to operate as normal with no immediate shift to home-based teaching and learning (PdPR).

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry has not made any decision to implement PdPR, drawing on past experiences that negatively impacted student progress.

“Work from home (WFH) and PdPR are two different things, and so far there has been no decision regarding PdPR, with learning continuing as usual,” she told reporters after an engagement session with media practitioners.

She explained the government’s primary focus is on recovering from previous learning disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fadhlina stressed that no education policy would be implemented hastily to ensure the quality of student learning is maintained.

The minister’s comments come amid reports the government is studying a WFH proposal for the public sector due to the West Asia geopolitical crisis.

A decision on that broader proposal is expected at a Cabinet meeting.

During the event, Fadhlina also outlined plans under the new Malaysia Education Blueprint (RPM) 2026-2035.

She announced the establishment of a national student leadership council to represent student voices at district, state, and national levels.

“Student input is crucial in implementing the plans and policies of the RPM 2026-2035,” she said.

The engagement session aimed to strengthen partnerships with media agencies that help disseminate ministry policies.

Fadhlina also presented Aidilfitri donations to 20 children with autism at the PERMATA Kurnia Centre and joined media practitioners for the breaking of fast.
