KUCHING: Engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) specialist Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd’s (SCIB) wholly-owned subsidiary, SCIB Industrialised Building System Sdn Bhd (SIBS), has secured an EPCC sub-contract valued at approximately RM11.90 million for upgrading works at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
The sub-contract involves the upgrading of the air-conditioning system at the Faculty of Engineering building under Phase 1, Package 8 of the UMS development programme.
SIBS was appointed as the subcontractor by Demi Cerah Construction Sdn Bhd.
The project is scheduled to commence on Aug 1, 2026 and is expected to be completed by July 3, 2027.
The latest award further strengthens SCIB’s project pipeline in Sabah and reinforces the group’s capability to undertake technically specialised institutional and public infrastructure works, supported by its engineering, procurement and construction capabilities.
Non-independent non-executive chairman Datuk Chong Loong Men said this contract represents another meaningful addition to SCIB’s construction and EPCC portfolio and further strengthens the group’s presence in Sabah, highlighting its continued growth in the region.
“Our engineering, procurement and construction capabilities enable us to deliver projects efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality and execution.
“The upgrading works require close coordination across engineering, procurement and on-site implementation, areas where the Group has continued to build its execution capabilities,” he said.
Chong said institutional facilities such as universities require reliable and efficient building systems to support their day-to-day operations.
“We are pleased to contribute our technical expertise to the upgrading of UMS’ engineering facilities while continuing to grow SCIB’s pipeline of quality projects,” he said.
The contract is expected to contribute positively to SCIB’s future earnings, with revenue and profit recognition anticipated to take place progressively throughout the contract period based on the progress of works. SCIB intends to fund the project through a combination of internally generated funds and external financing, where required.
The group believes that the latest contract strengthens its positioning in Sabah, where ongoing investment in education, public facilities and infrastructure continues to generate opportunities for qualified construction and EPCC contractors.
The group will remain focused on securing projects that complement its core expertise, support sustainable order book growth and enhance long-term earnings visibility, while continuing to strengthen its presence in East Malaysia.
