Kota Kinabalu: Sedco Communications Sdn Bhd (SComm), a subsidiary of the Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco), has embarked on a major rebranding exercise as part of its corporate transformation and plans to expand into artificial intelligence (AI), smart infrastructure, green technology and digital transformation solutions.
Sedco Group Chairman Datuk Masiung Banah said the rebranding was aimed at raising public awareness of SComm's capabilities, strengthening its competitiveness and positioning the company as one of Sedco's key subsidiaries with a greater role in contributing to Sabah's economy.
Speaking at the launch of SComm's Corporate Transformation and Vision at its office in KK Times Square on Friday, he said the company, backed by a new management team and strategic direction, would move beyond its traditional telecommunications business while ensuring technological innovations remain affordable for consumers.
SComm Executive Director Subha Maraiah said the company is developing strategic partnerships with technology firms in China to facilitate knowledge transfer and has repositioned itself to create new revenue streams while strengthening Sabah's digital ecosystem.
He said COSMOS, a shareholder of SComm, secured its first contract with Sabah Electricity through a collaboration with Celcom Timur Sabah to deploy a smart metering system combining fibre-optic connectivity with SIM card technology, which can also be adapted for water utilities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
