
A total of 1,061 candidates were found to have been validly nominated during the scrutiny of nomination papers for the upcoming municipal elections in the district. A total of 1,175 nominations were received for various municipal corporations and councils in the district.
For the Mohali MC, 165 candidates were found to be validly nominated out of 166 nominations received for Wards 1 to 25, said Returning Officer Amrinder Singh Malhi, ACA, GMADA.
Similarly, for Wards 26 to 50, 146 out of the 158 candidates were found to be validly nominated, according to Returning Officer Damandeep Kaur, SDM, Mohali.
In the Zirakpur Municipal Council, 212 nominations out of 259 were found to be valid for its 31 wards, while for Banur civic body, 54 out of 56 candidates were validly nominated against 13 wards. In Dera Bassi, 149 candidates were found validly nominated out of the 162 nominations received against 19 wards. For the council in Lalru, 108 candidates out of 131 were found validly nominated for 17 wards.
In the Kurali Municipal Council, candidature of 93 out of 99 candidates was found to be valid against 17 wards, while for Nayagaon, candidature of 134 out of 144 candidates was found to be valid against 21 wards during scrutiny. May 19 is the last date for withdrawal of candidature by validly nominated candidates.
