PAPAR: A search and rescue operation is underway for a nine-year-old boy feared drowned while swimming with friends at Kampung Benoni, Papar, on Tuesday evening.
District Fire and Rescue Department received the distress call at 7.20pm.
According to witnesses, the boy slipped near a culvert before being swept away by the current into a nearby river.
Rescuers from the Papar fire station, launched a water surface search upon arrival.
Additional teams later expanded the search radius to 250 metres along the riverbank.
As of 10pm, the boy had yet to be found.
