The search for a diver missing since March 21 near Pulau Tenggol has ended after no new leads were found, with authorities suspending the operation.
DUNGUN: The search and rescue operation for a diver reported missing in the waters off Pulau Tenggol has been called off.
Kemaman Maritime Zone director Maritime Commander Abdul Halim Hamzah said the operation for Tam Peng Hoong, 66, ended yesterday evening after no new leads were found.
The search involved marine assets from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, the Royal Malaysia Police, and two local diving centres.
“However, until yesterday evening, no leads or findings related to the victim have been detected,” Halim said in a statement today.
He added that the decision was made after considering the duration of the search and discussions with all involved agencies.
The local man was reported missing after a scuba diving session on Friday afternoon.
He was diving with one of his children and reportedly failed to surface after five minutes.
