KOTA BELUD: Search and rescue teams are scouring the waters off Pulau Mantanani after two Chinese tourists, a 25-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, were reported missing on Monday.

The pair, who had checked into Sutera Mantanani on Oct 4, were due to check out the following day but have not been seen since, with their belongings still found inside their room.

Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station received an alert from police at 9.25am on Monday and deployed 20 firefighters.

The search operation, which includes personnel from the police, General Operations Force and Civil Defence, focuses on surface water patrols along the island’s coastline.

The operation was called off at 6pm due to fading light and will resume Tuesday morning as rescuers continue to hope for signs of the missing pair.
