
TUARAN: A fisherman has been reported missing after heading out alone to catch fish at Sungai Serusop here on Saturday.
The man, identified as 34-year-old Husaini Saidin, was discovered missing when he failed to return home after leaving at 4.30am that day.
District Fire and Rescue chief Mohamad Nor Amit said a distress call was received at 1.19pm on Monday from the police, prompting a search operation.
A team of 12 personnel, supported by a fire engine, boat and Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit, scoured a 15-kilometre stretch of coastline with help from villagers using two boats.
The victim’s damaged boat and nets were later found washed ashore, and search efforts involving the Civil Defence Force, police and villagers were called off at 6pm to resume on Tuesday morning.
