TAWAU: Construction of the new Sungai Tamang Health Clinic (KKST) on Sebatik Island is expected to begin by mid-2026 under the Health Ministry’s allocation for dilapidated clinics worth RM1.5 million.

Initially approved in 2019 with a RM20 million budget, the Type Six clinic project was revised to RM49 million after the Public Works and Health Departments split it into two development phases.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the project could no longer be delayed as it serves around 25,000 island residents who currently rely on limited health services in a temporary facility at Kampung Sungai Tongkang.

He said the project would be expedited under the Madani Government’s allocation, ensuring construction starts as soon as possible on the identified site in Kampung Sungai Tamang, Sebatik.

Dr Dzulkefly, who also inaugurated the Sungai Imam Rural Clinic worth RM600,222 serving 16,200 residents, visited several East Coast clinics to assess dilapidated facilities in need of immediate attention.
