Second world war bomb discovered at Penang construction site

AN unexploded bomb believed to date back to the Second World War was discovered at a construction site along Jalan Seri Tanjung Pinang in Tanjung Tokong, Penang, on Sunday night.

Timur Laut District Police Chief ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad said a public report regarding the discovery was received at 9.42pm.

“The Bomb Disposal Unit (UPB) from the Penang Contingent Police Headquarters inspected the object and confirmed that it was an unexploded ordnance (UXO) bomb from the Second World War,” he said in a statement.

“No casualties or property damage were reported in this incident.”

He added that the unit has confirmed the area to be safe, with disposal of the device scheduled for today. - May 20, 2025
