TUARAN: The Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (Sedia) has submitted 14 project applications, including 10 new ones worth RM702 million, under the First Rolling Plan of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) starting next year.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor expressed hope for approval from the Ministry of Economy and emphasized regular monitoring of Sedia's projects. He commended Sedia for maintaining a clean financial record for 15 years.

Sedia, funded by the Economy Ministry, has completed the Sabah Border Area Economic Development Study, identifying nine key sectors to boost economic growth in Sipitang, Nabawan, Kalabakan, and Tawau. These sectors, including tourism, fisheries, palm oil downstream, and cross-border trade, could increase resource value by 330% to RM1.6 billion and create 10,660 jobs by 2040.

Additionally, Sedia's feasibility study on blood cockle farming identified suitable locations across Sabah, potentially benefiting over 3,000 people. Collaboration with the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) has also assessed 10 commercial research projects.

Sabah has been chosen as a testing ground for passenger and cargo drones, facilitated by Sedia and FUTURISE Berhad. Since 2009, Sedia has implemented over 1,275 projects with RM3.1 billion allocated, focusing on high-impact, people-centric programs.

Hajiji urged Sedia and state agencies to seek strategic partnerships for income generation and job creation. At an Iftar ceremony, he praised grassroots leaders for their role in Sabah’s progress and political stability, aligning with the Sabah Maju Jaya aspirations. Sedia also distributed Ramadan contributions to local leaders in appreciation of their service.
