Anwar Ibrahim is prepared to testify against Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in court regarding allegations that Mahathir enriches his family while serving as prime minister, according to his attorney today.

Anwar had to retract his comments during a PKR congress last month or face legal action for defamation, according to Mahathir.

According to Alliff Benjamin Suhaimi, Anwar's attorney, in response to Mahathir's demand, "We are ready to answer any allegations in court" if Mahathir moves forward with the lawsuit.

The argument centers on Anwar's assertion that Mahathir gave his family financial benefits while in office in a speech at the PKR conference. From 1981 to 2003 and from 2018 to 2020, Mahathir served as prime minister.

On March 28, a letter of demand was sent to Anwar requesting a public apology and retraction. Mahathir warned Anwar earlier today that today is the final day to react.

Anwar, the head of PKR, has earlier declared he would offer evidence to support the claims he made at the congress.

According to Malaysia Kini, in response to Anwar Ibrahim's allegations that the former prime minister had accumulated a fortune for personal gain while in office, former prime minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad would move through with legal proceedings against Anwar Ibrahim.

"Tun Mahathir has given us the go-ahead to file a lawsuit. This demonstrates that Anwar has not offered an apology or recanted his statement.

"Aside from that, I was told that Anwar indicated he did not want to fight with me during a dialogue session with university students after receiving the letter from my counsel.

"This is really odd. He has been making up excuses to accuse me of various things for years. Despite the fact that I've heard he has boxes of evidence in his possession, not a single piece of proof has been presented when asked to do so,” said Tun Dr. Mahathir.

Despite all of Anwar's allegations, according to Dr. Mahathir, he decided not to intervene earlier because he viewed Anwar's behavior as those of a guy who was eager to become prime minister.

Anwar had asserted last month that Dr. Mahathir's relatives had amassed wealth during his 22-year tenure as prime minister of Barisan Nasional.

After then, Dr. Mahathir demanded in writing that Anwar recant his statement and apologize.
