'Seizure' remark ruled out of order in State Assembly

KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Speaker Datuk Al Hambra Tun Juhar ruled that the word “seizure” used in the State Legislative Assembly was subjective and not allowed, after Tungku assemblyman Assafal P. Alian used it during a debate interjection.

He said the term was speculative but noted the point had already been heard by the House.

Assafal later referenced a 1965 federal gazette, arguing that more than 100 Sabah ordinances, including key revenue-related laws, were federalised before Sabah had an elected assembly.

He said this shift contributed to Sabah losing control over financial resources, with further centralisation continuing through later national developments including the 1969 Emergency period.
