Six affiliates of the Selangor Athletics Association (SAA) – Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, Sepang, Klang, and Hulu Selangor – will hold a press conference tomorrow, citing a loss of confidence in the association’s top management.
The officials in question are president Nurhayati Karim, her deputy A. Sritharan, and vice-presidents A. Varughese and Cheng Tong Lean. The six affiliates have made nine accusations against them, including alleged financial irregularities.

The group had initially filed a motion of no confidence on April 7. However, a day before the association’s AGM on April 26, Nurhayati sent a letter to all six affiliates, threatening legal action. She described the allegations as “false and baseless, based on bad faith (mala fide), intended to tarnish her good name”, and gave them three days to retract the claims or face legal proceedings.

Tempers flared at the start of the AGM, but the parties eventually reached an amicable resolution, with Nurhayati reportedly promising to present audited accounts within two weeks.

However, the affiliates say several issues remain unresolved:

• The AGM held on April 26 did not comply with the association’s constitution.
• The audited financial statements presented were inaccurate.
• Delegates were told they would be invited back within 14 days (by May 10) to further discuss the issues – but no invitation was received.

Former SAA president Datuk SM Muthu, who now heads the Petaling AA, said: “She gave an interview after the AGM claiming everything was settled, but that is not true.”

“Also, she threatened legal action against us for the vote of no confidence, but how can she do that without referring to the association’s disciplinary board?

“We will hold a press conference tomorrow to further explain the situation.”

He added that the affiliates had been patient for a long time and were seeking clarity for the sake of the sport.

Twentytwo13 reached out to Nurhayati after last month’s AGM and again earlier today, but she has yet to respond.
