Selangor Customs confiscated seven dumper trucks, six panel vans and 2,566 gas stoves worth RM1.9 million in separate Port Klang operations for lacking import permits.
PORT KLANG: The Selangor branch of the Royal Malaysian Customs Department has seized heavy vehicles and household goods worth nearly RM1.9 million in three separate operations at Port Klang free zones this year.
State Customs director Mohamad Azhar Ahmad Paharazi said seven dumper trucks, each with a gross vehicle weight exceeding 45 tonnes, were confiscated at the Northport Free Zone on Jan 14 under ‘Op Terma’.
The total seizure value for the dumper trucks is estimated at RM1.099 million, with duties and taxes involved amounting to RM472,570.
In a separate case at the Westport Free Zone on Jan 7, the department seized three 40-foot containers holding six diesel panel vans with an estimated value of RM690,000 and unpaid duties of RM296,000.
Mohamad Azhar said investigations revealed the vehicles, believed imported from an Asian country, arrived at Port Klang on April 17, 2025, and were declared in the manifest only as ‘Motor Vehicle Colour’ without the required import permit from the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry.
The department also confiscated 2,566 gas stoves valued at RM135,117 from a container in the North Port Free Zone under ‘Op Petasan’, with duties and taxes on those items totalling RM35,806.
“Customs believes that the items were brought into the country due to high demand during the recent Chinese New Year,” Mohamad Azhar said at a press conference.
All three seizures are being investigated under Section 135(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967 for importing prohibited goods, which carries severe penalties including heavy fines and imprisonment.
Offenders face a minimum fine of 10 times the goods’ value or RM100,000, up to a maximum of 20 times the value or RM500,000, along with possible imprisonment of six months to five years.
Mohamad Azhar urged the public to report smuggling activities via the Customs toll-free hotline at 1-800-88-8855, assuring informants of complete confidentiality.
