SHAH ALAM, July 7 - The Child Protection Advocacy Programme (KASIH Kanak-Kanak) will be expanded to schools under the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) this year to strengthen efforts to prevent bullying.
State executive councillor for women empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari said the initiative will be implemented through the Selangor Social Welfare Department.
The programme employs a peer-mentor approach to foster a culture of mutual protection and raise students' awareness of the dangers of bullying.
"This year, we will collaborate with schools under JAIS to expand the child safety advocacy programme.
"We are empowering the students as peers to be more attuned to the issue of bullying through a preventive approach and by cultivating positive values, especially a culture that rejects bullying," she said when contacted by Media Selangor today.
Anfaal added that the programme has been implemented through a district-level tour series since 2024, with state government funding, to raise awareness about child safety in schools, institutions and public spaces.
This year's implementation is divided into three series, with the first scheduled for July 27.
"The second series will take place in August, focusing on primary school students. The third series will involve children from GISBH and care centres under Yayasan Islam Darul Ehsan.
"In total, this year's programme is expected to involve 28 secondary schools and 25 secondary tahfiz schools, as well as 11 primary schools and 24 primary tahfiz schools across Selangor," she said.
Yesterday, a 29-second video went viral on social media showing an individual dressed entirely in black carrying a sharp weapon, believed to be a knife, within a school compound.
The authorities have confirmed that a student was injured after allegedly being stabbed by the 15-year-old suspect at a secondary school in Banting.
The female suspect was subsequently arrested and remanded for four days to assist with the investigation into the incident.
