The Selangor government has launched the Insurans Hayat Selangor (Insan) scheme, which is set to provide six million individuals in the state with free general insurance coverage for one year. Offering compensation of RM10,000 in the event of death or total disability due to an accident, it is already open for registration.
Provided in partnership with AmGeneral Insurance, the Insan scheme will be applicable to individuals from a wide age group: from babies as young as 30 days old, all the way up to the elderly at the age of 80 years old. It is also fully sponsored by the Selangor state government with a total allocation of RM60 billion. Meanwhile, the implementation of the scheme will be fully digital, to be carried out by Wavpay Fintech Holding Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of MBI Selangor.
Briefly, MBI Selangor is a body that was established to manage the assets and investments of the Selangor state government – among its other more extensive roles.
To be eligible for the Insan scheme, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- Born in Selangor (Mykad number registered in Selangor)
- Latest address is registered in Selangor
- A voter in Selangor
If you’re eligible and would like to register for the programme, you need to first download the Wavpay e-wallet and sign up for an account. This will require you to go through the standard verification procedures. Once you’re done, go ahead and tap on the Insan progamme banner found on the main page of the app, then fill in and submit the necessary details – and you’re done! The policy will be emailed to you once your application has been approved, and the 12-month coverage period will begin from the date the policy is issued.
Finally, the registration period for the Insan scheme will continue all the way until 30 September 2023. However, you may want to consider doing it as soon as possible because the programme is capped at only six million individuals.
