SELANGOR is home to almost half of Malaysia's aerospace workforce, with 14,300 out of the 29,900 jobs created in the sector between 2019 and 2024, the State Legislative Assembly was informed today.
Ng Sze Han, the State Chairman for Investment, Trade, and Mobility, highlighted that according to data from the National Aerospace Industry Coordination Office (NAICO), Selangor plays a significant role in contributing to the country's aerospace sector.
"This makes Selangor a key contributor to the aerospace workforce," he said, adding that the overall figure is nearly in line with the target set in the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) of creating 30,000 aerospace job opportunities by 2025.
Ng's remarks were in response to an oral question posed by Syed Ahmad Abdul Rahman Alhadad (PH-Lembah Jaya) regarding the job opportunities generated through collaborations in the aerospace sector.
To further stimulate job creation in aerospace, the state government actively collaborates with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and industry players to secure high-value work packages and quality employment opportunities.
Ng also shared that the state continues to organize career fairs to connect local talent with industry needs.
"These initiatives ensure that the local workforce is effectively integrated into the industry, helping to bridge the gap between employer requirements and job seekers," he explained.
At last year's fourth edition of the Selangor Aviation Show (SAS), 2,270 job opportunities were offered by aerospace companies, with 222 positions successfully filled.
Looking ahead, Ng revealed that the state government aims to create 32,000 aerospace job opportunities by 2030, aligning with the targets set in the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Blueprint (MAIB) 2030. - February 21, 2025
