SHAH ALAM, March 12 — The state government has continued its mosque outreach efforts with the second edition of the Selangor Kembara Masjid programme, or Kemas 2025, held in Hulu Selangor today.
Organised in collaboration with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais), the Hulu Selangor District Islamic Religious Office, and Masjid Kampung Melayu Rasa’s committee, the event brought together members of the local community, who joined the sahur and congregational Subuh prayers with some 300 residents attending.
State executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah, who led the programme, provided financial assistance of RM100 each to 50 asnaf (tithe recipients) families and pocket money for 150 school students during the event.
He also announced a RM5,000 allocation to repair the mosque’s azan tower, which has suffered significant structural damage.
Fahmi added that its committee had raised concerns about falling debris from cracks in the tower’s walls, which posed a safety risk to worshippers.
“Kemas is about ensuring that the state government remains connected to the needs of our mosques by witnessing their conditions first-hand and engaging directly with the committees, congregation, and local communities,” he said in a statement today.
Through these personal visits, officials can better understand the challenges facing mosque communities rather than relying solely on written reports.
The next edition of the programme is scheduled for March 21 in Petaling Jaya. It will continue its focus on mosque engagement during Ramadan through communal sahur meals, congregational prayers, support for asnaf families and students, and much-needed infrastructure improvements.
