SHAH ALAM, April 8 — The state government has provided five buses to bring back over 180 students from several universities outside of Selangor for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the Mahasiswa Selangor Pulang Beraya 2024 2024 programme involves students from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (in Johor), and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka.

Students from Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin in Terengganu and Universiti Malaysia Pahang were also brought back home via the initiative.

“The programme, in collaboration with the National Selangor Student Association (Permas), aims to assist students in returning home to celebrate (Aidilfitri) with their families.

“These buses will transport students to Terminal Bersepadu Selatan in Kuala Lumpur and the grounds of the State Secretariat Building (in Shah Alam),” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

Amirudin added that the state administration remains committed to safeguarding students’ welfare, and this programme aims to alleviate financial burdens and facilitate their return home for the festive period.

“The programme is a continuation of our efforts to assist students returning during the Covid-19 pandemic era,” he said.

During the Aidilfitri celebrations in 2021, the state government provided free transportation facilities to 352 Selangor students studying at six higher education institutions across Peninsula Malaysia.

It was meant to alleviate the financial burden on parents who were facing pressures due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic at the time.
