Selangor reviewing need for by-election following unconfirmed reports of ADUN’s bankruptcy

THE Selangor government is reviewing whether there is a need to hold a by-election following allegations over the qualifications of a State Assemblyman (ADUN).

Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, said that a review is being carried out with the legal advisor to confirm the allegations before any further action is decided.

“We have received some information. I am reviewing this with our legal advisor.

“We need to verify those allegations, or any claims relating to the disqualification or loss of eligibility of a state assemblyman,” he said.

According to Amirudin, if the review finds that there is a legal need to hold a by-election, the state government will inform the Election Commission (EC).

“I am reviewing this with our legal advisor to determine what the requirements are. If there is a need for us to inform the EC, we will,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said, the Speaker of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) is likely to make an explanation on the matter at the DUN session scheduled to be held on August 3.

This follows unconfirmed reports yesterday that Selangor could face a by-election after an assemblyman was allegedly declared bankrupt. – July 31, 2026
