HIS Majesty the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has called on elected officials and those entrusted with public authority in the state to shift their focus from political rhetoric to addressing the real problems faced by the people.

In a royal message marking the New Year 2026, Sultan Sharafuddin urged politicians to dedicate their energy and attention to meaningful work, noting that the next general election is approaching.

“To those entrusted with power and responsibility, especially the politicians in Selangor, I wish to say: enough with political talk.

“Focus on working to resolve the issues faced by the rakyat. Concentrate all your energy and thoughts on tangible development so that the people may live more comfortably, enjoy welfare protections, and feel safeguarded by a just and effective system,” the Sultan said in a Facebook post from the Selangor Royal Office.

He also emphasised that all planning and actions should be guided by a singular goal: the prosperity of the people and the stability of the state.

Highlighting the urgency of flood mitigation, Sultan Sharafuddin called for a clear objective of achieving “zero flood,” describing the ongoing problem as one that has persisted for far too long.

“Seek the best expertise, whether from within the country or abroad. Utilise knowledge, technology, and experience.

“Stop hiding behind excuses, for the suffering of the rakyat should never be the price of failed planning. I am aware that we cannot prevent storms, typhoons, heavy rain, or natural disasters, which are ordained by Allah.

“However, I am confident that floods can be overcome with a good system, long-term planning, and honest, disciplined execution,” he said.

In his message, Sultan Sharafuddin, alongside Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, extended New Year greetings to all residents of Selangor, regardless of race, religion, or background.

“May this New Year bring hope, peace, and lasting well-being to everyone. Let it serve as a turning point to become better, more virtuous, and more beneficial to your family, community, and state. May Allah bless this state and all its people,” the royal couple said. - December 29, 2025
