The decision applies to all educational institutions under its administration. Students attending school are encouraged to wear face masks as precaution against haze.

“Parents or guardians who are concerned about their children's health are permitted to keep them home, provided that they inform the school,” it said in a statement today.

The Selangor JPN added that it is mandatory for school administrators to monitor the Air Pollutant Index (API) readings issued by the Environment Department (DOE) and pay special attention to students who are listed under high-risk health category.

“Parents, guardians and school staff are advised to refer to the Selangor JPN’s official communication channels or their respective schools for accurate and up to date information,” it said.

The department also expressed their appreciation for the cooperation of all parties in safeguarding the health, safety and well being of the education community.
