KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — The state government has focused on eco-tourism and agro-tourism to attract more visitors within and without Malaysia.

State executive councillor for tourism Hee Loy Sian said there are many locations which are not widely known to the public, and certainly, tourists want to see Selangor which is known as a big city from a different angle.

“We have forest areas, rivers, waterfalls, firefly villages and the Sky Mirror for eco-tourism, while for agro-tourism there are several places in Sekinchan and Sepang.

“Approximately RM6 million has been allocated for tourism promotional purposes, and the promotions are not just carried out domestically but also internationally,” he said.

Hee was speaking at the launch of the mobile photography competition jointly organised by the state government with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor (KLSCCCI) at Wisma Chinese Chamber along Jalan Ampang in KL, earlier today.

To ensure they are in pristine condition, the councillor said RM1.5 million will be allocated to repair the infrastructure of the local tourism areas.

“We also hope that local authorities will provide assistance, as well as grants from the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry to collectively repair the existing infrastructure.

“In the two years without tourism activities, a lot of damage occurred hence why it requires a high cost to restore,” he said.
