Selangor suffers RM400,000 in losses from pumphouse component theft

SHAH ALAM, Aug 6 - The state government has logged RM400,000 in losses from pumphouse vandalism and component theft across Selangor, said state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim.

He added that the government has held talks with Selangor police to strengthen enforcement and security at these pumphouses.

“I have asked the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS), Public Works Department (JKR) and concerned departments to improve security measures with CCTV cameras and such to bolster these pumphouses so (theft and vandalism) can be reduced.

“We have also asked police, security (personnel) to help us, and to study measures we can use to fix this,” he said in response to a supplementary question by Ijok assemblyman Jefri Mejan on efforts to prevent damage and theft at pumphouses, during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

Izham explained that flood pump systems depend on pump designs, capacities, intensity during rain, and seawater levels during high tide.

He said Selangor JPS ensures all pumphouses and sluice gates function optimally, with periodic inspections and maintenance, as preparation for rainy seasons and high-tide phenomena.
