SHAH ALAM, April 23 - Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj today handed over a historic document related to Malaysia’s independence during His Royal Highness’ visit to Seri Negara yesterday.
According to a Selangor Royal Office statement posted to Facebook, the Sultan, accompanied by Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, also presented copies of a document signed by Malay Rulers in 1957 at the location, to Khazanah Nasional.
Also handed over were several old copies of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur maps from the Ruler’s collection, which date back to 1882.
“Seri Negara isn’t just a colonial heritage building, but a historic arena that witnessed Selangor’s journey from British-era rule to the restoration of Malay Rulers’ sovereignty,” read the statement.
The building, previously known as King’s House, is an important historic location that has witnessed the signing of the Federation Agreement and independence documents with the Malay Rulers’ consent.
“Here is where the foundations of independence were negotiated and signed with the Malay Rulers’ consent, including the legacy of the Selangor Sultanate itself,” read the statement.
