SHAH ALAM, May 18 — The state government is confident that Selangor FC will deliver a strong performance in the Super League match against Kedah Darul Aman FC (KDA FC) at MBPJ Stadium tonight.

State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said that even without its winger Mohamad Faisal Abdul Halim, the other players, who also have their own talents, remain undeterred.

“We are confident that Selangor FC will put on an energetic performance, and with the support not only from the community but also from state leadership, we believe Selangor FC will achieve their first victory in tomorrow’s (today’s) match.

“Faisal is indeed a key player for the team, but at the same time, we also have a lineup of highly capable and skilled players,” he told the press after the Selangor Local Youth Movers briefing ceremony (PeBS) at Dewan Jubli Perak yesterday evening.

Meanwhile, Najwan said that the security measures for tomorrow’s match will be enhanced to ensure the safety of both players and spectators.

Previously, Red Giants supporters were urged to show solidarity for the national winger by participating in a “stand and clap” campaign in the seventh minute of the Selangor FC match against KDA FC.

The club’s management has also launched a solidarity campaign for Faisal, displaying messages of support on both static and electronic billboards across all local authorities in the state.

The national football scene was shocked when Faisal was splashed with acid by an unknown individual at a shopping mall in Petaling Jaya on May 5, causing him to suffer fourth-degree burns and affecting his movements and speech.

After undergoing a series of surgeries and skin grafts, the winger is currently recuperating after being moved from the Intensive Care Unit to a normal ward of a private hospital.

Faisal’s attack was the second such incident after Terengganu FC loan player Muhammad Akhyar Abdul Rashid was attacked by two robbers at his residential area in Kuala Terengganu on May 2.

Later, on May 7, Johor Darul Ta’zim player Safiq Rahim was assaulted by two men on a motorcycle who smashed the rear window of his car with a hammer in Johor Bahru.
