Selangor will meet oil and gas representatives and economists to prepare for a potential energy crunch, with work-from-home plans for state staff also under review.
SELANGOR: The state government will convene a meeting with oil and gas industry representatives, economists, and financial institutions this Wednesday.
The session aims to formulate a preparedness plan for a potential energy crisis linked to the situation in West Asia.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the move is crucial to ensure readiness for both direct and indirect impacts on economic growth.
He stated the energy crisis is a new challenge that must be faced collectively.
Amirudin noted that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will also convene all Menteris Besar and Chief Ministers this Thursday.
That meeting will develop a broader framework and action plan to address the issue.
Speaking after officiating the reopening of the Ampang Lookout Point, Amirudin revealed he has instructed state authorities to prepare a work-from-home framework for civil servants.
The key objective is to reduce pressure on fuel consumption driven by vehicle usage.
“We are currently assessing two aspects, productivity and fuel consumption pressure,” he told reporters. He added that while a full crisis level has not been reached, the state needs to be prepared with the right data.
The state government will review two key presentations this week before finalising decisions at the upcoming State Executive Council meeting.
On the tourism front, Amirudin said the ALOP reopening reflects a commitment to inclusive and sustainable tourism.
He said the project provides a recreational space while empowering local entrepreneurs and preserving natural heritage.
All state development undergoes careful planning to balance physical progress with ecosystem conservation, he added.
