SHAH ALAM, Nov 17 — The state government plans to digitise the Skim Mesra programme, which is expected to be implemented by mid-next year.

State executive councillor for social welfare Anfaal Saari said it is necessary to automate work processes to improve the service quality following an increase in applications for the scheme this year.

“By digitalising Skim Mesra, applications and voucher redemption can be done online by applicants, heirs, or service centres, either through mobile phones or laptops,” she said.

Anfaal was speaking at the wind-up of the 2024 Selangor Budget during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session today.

She also denied that Skim Mesra’s digitisation would have a negative impact, especially on the elderly and rural residents who do not have Internet access.

The Taman Templer state assemblyman said currently, 166,982 senior citizens have the SELangkah app since its introduction during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Taking into account the urban and rural digital divide, the state government will still provide support through service centres and coordinators who will assist applicants and voucher redemption,” she said.

During the tabling of the state budget on November 10, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the Skim Mesra programme would be improved through digitisation so registration and voucher redemption applications could be made online.

The improvements include enhancements for Skim Mesra Usia Emas and Skim Mesra Insan Istimewa, which will cost RM37.5 million.

At present, 547,269 people have registered as members to enjoy the benefits of a RM150 shopping voucher every year and and RM500 death benefit for their heirs.
