Selangor Women’s Policy to guide gender-responsive inclusivity

SHAH ALAM, Aug 10 - The Selangor Women’s Policy and Action Plan 2027-2031 will continue the women empowerment and development agenda in a comprehensive, inclusive and gender-responsive manner, said state executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari.

She said the roadmap has three strategies - assessing current policies, evidence- and engagement-based approaches, and strengthening interventions that directly impact women’s lives.

She added that the state government would assess achievements for each goal and performance indicator, programme effectiveness, impact on target groups, and hurdles faced throughout the current 2024-2026 iteration of the plan.

“This assessment is important to identify initiatives that should be continued, expanded or improved, as well as programmes that need restructuring so they are more effective.

“Current data analysis will be used, including data segmentation according to gender, previous study results, and programme survey findings, as a basis to shape the policy.

“Engagement sessions will also be held with government agencies, local authorities, academia, civil society organisations, the private sector, and women’s communities,” she told the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here today.

Responding to a question from Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Pua Pei Ling, Anfaal said findings from the Gender Outlook 2026 roundtable was used as the main input for the new plan so it covers women’s changing needs, challenges and aspirations.

“The Gender Mainstreaming and Gender-Responsive Budget will be expanded so gender perspectives are incorporated more comprehensively in the state government’s policy planning, budget preparation, and service delivery,” she added.

With regard to the Selangor Women’s Policy and Action Plan 2024-2026, Anfaal said there were positive developments in most performance indicators, adding that the plan is on track.

“Several indicators have reached their targets early, while several others are still underway and are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

“The state government, through Wanita Berdaya Selangor, conducts surveys with implementing agencies to ensure each initiative is executed according to targets and to make improvements,” she explained.

In May 2024, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari launched the Selangor Women’s Policy and Action Plan 2024-2026, themed “Women’s Progress, Selangor’s Prosperity”. It covers five focus areas and seven goals that touch on various women development aspects and issues.
