KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 — The Selangor Halal promotional campaign at the Selangor International Halal Conference (Selhac) 2023 recorded sales of RM55.73 million.
State executive councillor for halal industry Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said sales were 40 per cent higher than last year, which managed to net RM37 million.
“This achievement was attained through the active involvement of HIS Toyibba in collaboration with the State Islamic Religious Standing Committee.
“It is our hope that the involvement in the Malaysia International Halal Exhibition (Mihas) 2023 will be able to collect a larger business matching target,” he said when met at the launch of the Selangor Pavilion in conjunction with Mihas 2023 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) yesterday.
In addition, Dr Mohammad Fahmi informed that Selhac 2023 recorded a 100 per cent increase in the number of visitors physically compared to last year’s edition.
“There were 176,853 participants who attended the event online and Selhac received a good response from 12 countries, including the Philippines, Canada, Thailand and Russia,” he said.
The previous edition of Selhac, held at the World Trade Centre on March 10 to 12, brought together approximately 200 halal industry players from all over the country and the world.
In a statement in the March-April edition of @Halal magazine the Menteri Besar said Selhac needs to be highlighted as an important component in the wider state economic plan.
According to Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, it is in line with the goal of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) to make the halal industry a critical sector to improve Selangor’s position as an international halal gateway.
Meanwhile, Selangor Menteri Besar (Incorporation). or MBI. chief operating officer Saipolyazan M Yusop believes business matching at the Selangor Pavilion can achieve an increased transactions of between 10 and 15 per cent compared with last year, based on the increase in the number of exhibitors and an increase in demand for halal products.
“Last year’s Selangor Halal Promotion record achievement in terms of business matching transactions was RM55.73 million and we expect to see an increase of between 10 and 15 per cent this year.
“This target is reasonable for the Selangor Pavilion to achieve because the awareness of the community is increasing. Likewise, exhibitors increased by 24 per cent and there are no more travel restrictions,” said Saipolyazan at the launch of the Selangor Pavilion at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre here yesterday.
Saipolyazan added that MBI through HIS Toyyiba Sdn Bhd (HIS) provided 23 booths to exhibitors consisting of government-linked companies (GLCs), MBI subsidiaries and companies based in Selangor.
He also said the company is involved in the food and beverage, logistics and warehousing, ingredients, cosmetics and grooming sectors as well as educational and media institutions.
“Here you can find everything from researchers, producers to marketing. With all those ecosystems, we hope to increase product sales in addition to business matching,” he said.
Hosted by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and organized by the Malaysian Foreign Trade Development (Matrade), Mihas features the latest trends, technologies and innovations covering 13 halal industry clusters.
The exhibition runs physically on location for four days until September 15 and via online platforms that can be accessed 24 hours a day.
