Over the Chinese New Year holidays, I received a phone call from a company. Let's call it Company X.
Company X: Hi, I am calling from Company X. Are you Miss Crystal?
(I have never dealt with this company before and because of previous experiences of receiving many spam/sales & marketing calls from unknown numbers, my defense mode was up.)
Me with a stern tone: May I know what is this regarding?
Company X: We got your number from your name card last time.
Me thinking to myself *ok, now he is going to promote his business*
Company X: We just want to wish you Gong Xi Fa Cai and hope you will have a great year ahead.
Me: Oh thank you. *still waiting for him to talk more*
Company X: That's all, have a nice day.
Me: Oh, that's all? You called just to wish me a Happy Chinese New Year?
Company X: Ya
My heart felt bad after the phone call as I was expecting him to "sell" something to me. But he did not.
In fact, I myself have done that, cold calls with intention of promoting our company's products & services. (Hey, we need to survive right? Sales & marketing is very important)
It is indeed a challenge trying to promote our business to strangers. We cannot be too pushy and cannot hard sell.
Anyhow, I will remember this company X. Immediately after the phone call, I went and google the company name to find out what they actually do. If I do require any of their products or services in the future, I will definitely think of them!
They are selling without selling.
Also, the fact that they are still working over the festive Chinese New Year holidays.
