MANILA, Philippines — The Senate Impeachment Court has cancelled the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday due to the forecast of heavy rains and flooding associated with the southwest monsoon, Impeachment Clerk of Court Renato Bantug Jr. announced Monday.
In an advisory, Bantug said Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian ordered the cancellation of the trial and the Senate plenary session in view of Memorandum Circular No. 128 issued by the Office of the President and the impact-based forecast of heavy rains and flood on Tuesday due to the southwest monsoon.
"Senate President Sherwin T. Gatchalian is authorizing all Senate officials and employees to work from home tomorrow, Tuesday, 18 August 2026," Bantug said.
"The impeachment trial and the plenary session of the Senate tomorrow are likewise cancelled," he added.
