MANILA, Philippines — The Senate impeachment court continued its scrutiny of Vice President Sara Duterte’s financial records Wednesday as bank officials testified about 30 active accounts with a combined balance of about P190 million from 2022 to 2025, which the prosecution said were not declared in her Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs).
Arcy James Gonzales, branch manager of Asia United Bank (AUB) Davao Toril Branch, took the witness stand and was sworn in during the 35th day of the impeachment proceedings.
Gonzales testified that Duterte's husband, lawyer Manases "Mans" Carpio maintains two accounts with AUB and confirmed their year-end balances from 2022 to 2025. He also clarified that Duterte was not listed as a holder of the accounts.
Two other AUB officials—Davao Tagum Branch Manager Edeli Umayam and Ortigas Avenue-Greenhills Branch Manager Jerilee Mae Sanidad—were also scheduled to testify.
However, Private prosecutor James Bryan Ibrahim Alih for the House of Representatives said the prosecution would dispense with the two witnesses because the accounts maintained at the Davao Tagum and Ortigas-Greenhills branches had already been closed.
Other bank officials scheduled to appear include Philippine Savings Bank Branch Operations Department Head Irene Joy Ishida; Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company (Metrobank) Anti-Money Laundering Division Head Niña Feren Aguilar; Security Bank Branch Banking Group Head Leslie Cham; Bank of the Philippine Islands Central Manila Branches Division Head Marwin Galvez; and Philippine National Bank Davao San Pedro-CM Recto Branch Manager Julius Parian.
Representatives from BDO Unibank, Inc. are likewise expected to testify, including Branch Banking Group, Branch Regulatory Support Senior Assistant Vice President Mario Cirilo De Mesa Jr.; Consumer Banking Group Vice President Merian Manoguid; and Trust and Investment Group Senior Vice President Patricia Lei Alvarillo.
Following the testimony of the bank officials, the impeachment court is expected to hear from the first representative of an insurance company. FWD Life Insurance Corporation Chief Legal and Compliance Officer Juan Sotero Roman is scheduled to take the witness stand.
