MANILA, Philippines — The Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, resumed the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday for the 14th day of proceedings.
Prosecution witness Xylene Mae Del Campo, a state auditor of the Commission on Audit's Intelligence and Confidential Funds Audit Office (COA-ICFAO), is resumed her testimony on Duterte’s confidential funds.
She is also expected to make observations on the over 4,000 acknowledgement receipts that the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) had submitted to COA-ICFAO upon the latter’s request for more documentary evidence on the two office’s use of confidential funds.
The confidential funds under scrutiny total P612.5 million, consisting of P500 million allocated to the OVP from December 2022 to September 2023 and P112.5 million released to the DepEd while Duterte was education secretary in 2023.
