Senate shooting breach of public safety — Zubiri

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Migz Zubiri said the shooting incident at the Senate Wednesday night was a "breach" of public safety and institutional security.

The senator condemned the violence that took place inside the Senate building and urged the Philippine National Police to dig deeper into the incident.

"Violence must never enter the halls of the Senate," Zubiri said in a statement on Thursday.

"It's a good thing that no one got hurt, but that does not lessen the gravity of what happened inside a government institution," he said.

Zubiri said the Senate is a place for "open debates, law and service, and not a place for violence and intimidation."

"The PNP must give the public a clear timeline, identify the perpetrators and determine how armed perpetrators were able to enter, fire shots and get away from a seat of government," he said.

"Who ordered this, who carried it out, how they got inside and how they escaped? These are questions that must be answered with urgency," Zubiri said.
