Sepanggar flood hotspots may get special task committee

Kota Kinabalu: A special task committee may be formed to tackle recurring flash floods and ensure regular drainage maintenance at flood-prone hotspots in the Sepanggar parliamentary constituency.

Sepanggar MP Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said he would propose the committee to the Kota Kinabalu mayor to coordinate preparations and maintenance works, particularly at identified flood-prone locations.

He said the situation had affected several areas, with Karambunai badly hit the previous week while Inanam and Darau were among areas affected this week, adding that construction, road and infrastructure works in some flood-prone locations required closer attention.

Meanwhile, registration of flood victims at the relief centre at Dewan Pekan Manggatal has been extended until 4pm tomorrow to allow proper verification before Federal and State government assistance is distributed.

Mustapha said the data would be verified by DBKK, village heads, JKKK chairmen, the Social Welfare Department and other relevant agencies, with claims requiring a police report and confirmation from the respective village head or JKKK chairman.
