Serian recorded a very unhealthy API reading of 204, while five other areas in Sarawak reported unhealthy air quality amid worsening haze conditions

KUALA LUMPUR: The Serian District Police Headquarters (IPD) in Sarawak recorded an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at a “very unhealthy” level of 204 as of 5pm today.

    According to data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, five other areas in Sarawak recorded “unhealthy” levels, namely Kuching (195), Samarahan (182), Sri Aman (179), Sarikei (158), and Sibu (152).

    Meanwhile, 36 areas nationwide recorded API readings at moderate levels (51 to 100), while another 26 areas recorded good air quality levels (below 50).

    An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and readings exceeding 300 are hazardous.

    API data is released hourly based on records from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
