SESB pays RM7.5 million business zakat

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) paid RM7,505,667 business zakat for last year to the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (MUIS).

Its Chief Executive Officer, Ir Ts Mohd Yaakob Jaafar said it was a five per cent increase compared to 2021.

“For 2020, the amount of Wakalah Zakat was RM893,036 and SESB was also given trust for the distribution of TNB Zakat Wakalah amounting to RM58,000 for the construction of houses for the Bainati Janati Programme in Tanjung Aru and Papar.

“For 2021, the amount of Wakalah Zakat was RM938,208.

“A total of 12 per cent of the amount of zakat paid by SESB was returned to us in the form of Wakalah Zakat to be distributed to eligible groups according to the set criteria,” he said after the Zakat Presentation Ceremony at Istana Seri Kinabalu, Tuesday.

In addition, Yaakob also informed that several Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programmes have been planned by SESB to distribute the Wakalah Zakat to the needy.
