Kota Kinabalu: The public have been advised not to repair or carry out any activities on or near any of Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd’s (SESB) utilities, especially its substations and electrical towers.
SESB Senior General Manager (Asset Management) Idris Mohd Noor said any form of activities in these areas is extremely dangerous.
“All substations and power lines, electric poles and our utilities are dangerous as some of these assets are of high voltage and could cause death,” he said, Friday.
He said this following a recent viral TikTok video showing some alleged burial sites under the SESB power lines in the city here.
On Feb 1, Daily Express reported the issue that came to light after the two-minute video clip showing graves went viral on social media.
Idris, however, did not elaborate on whether the alleged burial sites seen on TikTok were real or not. Our report on February 1, 2023.
He said other activities that were not allowed near power stations or SESB utilities included fishing or swimming at ponds or rivers close to electric poles, flying kites or remote aeroplanes close to any electric lines, illegal power connections and power thefts, among others.
He also reminded the public not to carry out any works on SESB properties without a permit.
Idris said SESB was actively creating awareness on these issues and disseminating information on safety precautions when dealing with electrical items and utilities in various platforms, including on social media, newspapers and radio stations.
He reminded the public to always contact SESB first before carrying out anything near or on SESB property and utilities for safety reasons.
