Kota Kinabalu: Libaran Member of Parliament Datuk Suhaimi Nasir has called for immediate setting up of a dedicated Sabah-Sarawak Task Force to tackle delays in the Southern Link and the Sabah-Sarawak Grid projects.
He said these delays are impacting electricity supply in the East Coast especially Lahad Datu, Kalabakan and Tawau.
“The delays reflects more than technical issues but also fundamental risk management failures by the Sabah State Government,” he said.
“If this project is delayed because the Lawas-Miri (Sarawak) section remains incomplete, any responsible government’s first step should be establishing a Sabah-Sarawak Task Force with scheduled discussions and consistent progress monitoring,” Suhaimi added.
He praised Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as a calibre leader capable of resolving such issues, citing how the Premier previously intervened to address water supply problems at Universiti Malaysia Sabah when the Sabah Government failed to act.
“True leaders know no state boundaries when people need help,” Suhaimi said.
He criticised the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) State Government for focusing on announcements rather than concrete action.
“The GRS must understand that governing means building collaborative mechanisms with neighbouring states and delivering results for the people. When delays occur, sit down and discuss, do not point fingers or stage media theatrics,” he said.
He proposed the Task Force include clear implementation deadlines, public tracking mechanisms and open audits to ensure transparency and allow public assessment of government performance.
“Sabahans demand results, not political drama. Nizam Titingan and the GRS must understand that governing means action, not just talk,” Suhaimi said.
