
At least seven alleged drug peddlers were arrested in Samba and Udhampur districts on Tuesday as police intensified its crackdown under the ongoing anti-drug campaign, officials said.
In Samba, acting on specific inputs, a team laid a checkpoint at Namandar-Chak Ram Chand road and intercepted two men on a motorcycle without a number plate. A heroin like substance was recovered from their possession, they said.
The accused were identified as Ajay Sharma and Anil Kumar, both residents of Bain Camp, Samba, they added.
In another operation in the Vijaypur area, police arrested a history-sheeter, Sunil Kumar alias Kadu of Gagore, they said. The police said the accused was involved in multiple cases across Samba and Jammu districts.
In a separate case, the police arrested another alleged drug peddler, Bhag Hussain, alias Bhagu, of Rakh Barotian, and recovered a heroin-like substance along with a weighing machine and cash, they said.
In Udhampur, three persons were arrested in separate operations.
Sukhdev Singh was apprehended with 960 grams of ganja in Basantgarh, while Jeevan Kumar and Arun Kumar were arrested in the Tikri area, they said. Drugs were also seized from all the accused, they added.
3 drug peddlers held with heroin in Kulgam
Srinagar: Police on Tuesday arrested three alleged drug peddlers and recovered 202 grams of heroin from their possession in Kulgam district, officials said on Tuesday.
“In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Police in Kulgam successfully dismantled a drug network by arresting three accused, including a key kingpin, and recovering a significant quantity of heroin along with cash,” a police spokesman said.
Acting on reliable information, police established a mobile check post in Qazigud area and apprehended two alleged drug peddlers, the spokesman said. “During their search, 50 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered. The vehicle used in the commission of the offence was also seized,” he said.
The arrested persons were identified as Hilal Ahmad Ganai and Parvaz Ahmad Bhat. “During investigation, the first backward linkage was established, leading to the identification of a major supplier and kingpin Sadiq Hussain alias Showki, a resident Vijaypur in Samba district,” the spokesman said.
Subsequently, the competent court issued a search warrant, and a police team from Qazigund, with the help of Samba Police, raided the accused’s residence in Samba.
The team apprehended the accused and recovered 152 grams of heroin and Rs 52,000 cash from his premises, he said.
Roadside eatery on highway demolished
Ramban: Police on Tuesday demolished an eatery set up along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Chanderkoot in Ramban district, alleging its involvement in the sale of narcotics. ‘Makhan Dhaba’ is owned by Makhan Singh, a resident of Punjab, who has been living in Chanderkoot for nearly 40 years, officials said. According to the police, the structure was being used to supply contraband substances to locals as well as highway drivers.
