Seven injured as express bus catches fire after lorry collision

BATU PAHAT: Seven passengers sustained minor injuries when their express bus caught fire after colliding with a lorry late last night at KM78.7 of the northbound North-South Expressway.

Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Nazrul Yusri Mohd Yusof confirmed receiving the emergency call about the accident at 11.17 pm.

Firefighters arriving at the scene at 11.35 pm found a Hino express bus ablaze following its collision with a five-tonne Isuzu lorry.

All seven male victims including the bus driver aged between 23 and 48 had already exited the vehicle with minor injuries before fire crews arrived.

The 35-year-old lorry driver emerged completely unharmed from the incident according to official statements.

Firefighters successfully brought the blaze under full control by 12.13 am concluding the operation shortly afterward.

Fourteen personnel from both Ayer Hitam and Kluang Fire and Rescue Stations participated in the emergency response.

The operation deployed two Fire Rescue Tenders alongside two Emergency Medical Rescue Services units to manage the situation. – Bernama
