SEVEN reports have been filed in connection with a case involving Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, said Dang Wangi District Police Chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman.
According to reports in the New Straits Times, all reports were lodged at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, recently.
"I confirm that the Dang Wangi Police Headquarters has received reports related to the case involving Yang Berhormat Hannah Yeoh," Sulaiman said in a brief statement.
"Seven reports have been received so far." He added that the reports are still under preliminary investigation.
It was earlier reported that several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) had filed police reports urging the Home Ministry to ban Yeoh's book 'Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey', claiming it posed a threat to national security.
Before that, Yeoh, the Segambut Member of Parliament, had filed a police report in response to the spread of messages and videos that allegedly suggested she planned to convert Muslims or turn Malaysia into a Christian nation.
Yeoh reportedly said the report was filed because she believed the video contained malicious intent and could impact her ongoing appeal in a defamation case against former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan.
On Monday, the Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed Yeoh's defamation suit against Musa.
The case stemmed from statements the former police chief made during a forum at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) four years ago.
Yeoh filed the lawsuit on July 3, 2020, claiming that Musa made false and defamatory statements about her during the forum titled 'Contemporary Issues Discourse on the 1989 Hat Yai Peace Agreement: Did the Communist Party of Malaya Surrender?'.- December 28, 2024
