KUNAK: The Fire and Rescue Department rescued seven people from two families who were caught in a major flood that hit several houses in Kg Airport Batu 10 and the Bukit Tajam settlement area here, early Monday morning.
Kunak Fire and Rescue Department Head Mohamad Omarbatha said initially the FRT fire engines and EMRS vehicles could not pass through the road in the flooded area near the estate there, but managed to get out of the area.
The rescued victims comprised three men and four women.
The rescue team led by Senior Fire Officer (PBK II) Abdul Rasah Kaluang sought boat assistance from BBP Lahad Datu to carry out monitoring and rescue operations in flood-affected areas.
“The fire brigade also acquired help from villagers and the National Security Council (MKN) to remove all the victims stranded in the flood,” he said, adding that all the victims were then sent to the PPS Temporary Transfer Centre at Dewan Kg Airport Batu 10, Tun Fuad.
“The operation on Monday ended at 3.15 pm. Monitoring will be carried out from time to time,” he said.
