A total of six cars were severely damaged after rocks from a hillside fell right on top of them near an apartment in Ampang.

While no one was reported to have been hurt in the incident, residents are now left fearing for their safety lest another similar situation occurs.

He added the first incident took place at 8.15am, while the other occurred at 8.50am in the apartment’s parking area yesterday (Nov 3).

“An investigation at the scene found that rocks had fallen from a hillside onto the parking lot. The incident caused damage to six vehicles. Five were successfully removed, while one car was destroyed,” he said.

Heavy machinery was later deployed by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) to remove the rocks and debris from the area.

‘We don’t dare to park our cars inside anymore’

A resident named Wee later told Harian Metro that residents of Mutiara Court Apartments no longer dared to park their cars near Block 3.

He added that residents usually would park their cars in the parking lot but following the rockfall incident, they now have to park outside of the apartment compound.

However, this is much further away and carries the risk of getting fined.

Now we have no choice but to park outside. But if we do so, we’re worried about getting a traffic summon. It’s dangerous to park inside as the rocks can fall anytime.

Wee added MPAJ has already carried out cleaning works and installed safety barriers in the high-risk area.

“I hope slope stabilisation work can be done soon to prevent a recurrence and ensure residents no longer have to live in fear,” he said.
