KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for several states, including Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, effective until 5.00pm today.

The warning encompasses significant areas in Pahang (Bentong, Bera, Pekan, and Rompin), Selangor (Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat, and Sepang), and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

Also affected are multiple districts in Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Jempol, and Tampin) and across the state of Johor.

The alert warns of intense thunderstorms, with rainfall expected to exceed 20mm per hour and potentially persist for more than an hour.

This latest warning comes just three days after a late afternoon storm lashed the capital around 4pm on Sept 22, causing widespread damage and disruption.

The Sept 22 storm felled numerous trees across Kuala Lumpur, disrupting traffic and damaging several vehicles, though no injuries were reported.

Videos showing the destruction and flying debris from the violent storm quickly spread on social media.

MetMalaysia advises residents in the affected areas to take necessary safety precautions and stay updated on changing weather conditions.
